iPod Nano review: Apple iPod Nano 6th generation warming the hearts of Apple fan club. Apple launches a revamped iPod Touch, is new iPod Touch an ‘iPhone without phone’?
Is Apple’s latest iPod Touch really an ‘iPhone without the phone’? Apple CEO Steve Jobs said while introducing iPod Touch on September.1 media event that the new iPod is a more likely an iPhone without the phone. He further jokingly added that the device is also an ‘iPhone without contract’.
Actually what Steve hinted is that the new iPod Touch carries almost all features of an iPhone sans making phone calls. New iPod carries front-facing and rear cameras so like an iPhone. For video chatting, the device runs FaceTime, an app Apple introduced for iPhone 4.
Similarly the new iPod Touch sports a lot more features of iPhone. The finishing and technical specs of iPhone have been wonderfully merged with the enhanced musical tool from Apple. Roughly speaking the only thing missing is the option to make phone calls, which is even cellular phone calling.
In other words, iPod Touch is having no contract with any cellular provider. Instead the device features Wi-Fi connectivity for Internet, which can be magically used to make video chatting and VoIP calls. In fact VoIP is the only major feature that will liven up an iPod Touch.
The gadget comes up with two other important features speakers and a microphone to make VoIP calls. Instead of an external headset of previous iPod Touch, the fresh device will rely on speakers and microphone for making calls. The device deserves special appreciation for supporting VoIP services like Skype and Line2.
