The main reason for the hike is yet not known. But according to some industry insiders, several external factors have played an important role in pushing the prices of flowers up in the market.

That is why you would notice that during V-Day the sales of flower go up. Outside many flower shops you can come across inscriptions like “Happy Valentine’s Day” and “Te quiero.” Besides, shopkeepers pay extra attention to decorate rose and lily flower in style. The purpose is only to attract more revelers to the shop.
For many florists in V-Day that is also known as the day of romance is an important business day for them. The sales during this day account for a third of a florist’s annual sales and 40 percent of its profits.
This year, however, it appears that things may be a bit different after roses on the wholesale market are running anywhere from 5 to 25 percent higher. The rise in prices has been attributed to flooding in Colombia and higher shipping costs. With US importing about 80 percent of its flower the impact is being felt in the market.
