Toyota recall update: Toyota's troubles begin to deepen
3 February, 2010
New York: Toyota recall update: Toyota's troubles begin to deepen. Motor giant Toyota’s woes continue to tarnish the company’s impeccable image.
Its trouble started when news reports surfaced that the company had recalled millions of cars from the market because of the faulty pedal.
Since then engineers at the company have been working overtime to fix the fault, but all in vain. Now, the US regulators have also joined in. They are accusing the company of taking more time to fix defective gas pedals. The company has also been told that it could be slapped with civil penalties. Besides, they have decided to review all Toyota products.
This means that the company is for trouble. And its effort to fix the fault in the faulty gas pedal will be torpedoed. Some motor experts are trying to figure out what prompted the authorities to take this drastic step. Until last week the administration had washed its hands off from the whole issue. Officials had stated that they had nothing to do with it and it is the company’s duty to make sure that it provides quality product to customers. Reports had surfaced that the company recalled some six million vehicles. Also, the faulty pedals led to accidents in which some six people died.
"While Toyota is taking responsible action now, it unfortunately took an enormous effort to get to this point," Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said Tuesday in a statement. "We're not finished with Toyota and are continuing to review possible defects and monitor the implementation of the recalls."
