Toyota Prius San Diego: runaway Prius takes air out of Toyota offensive

10 March, 2010

New York: Toyota Prius San Diego: runaway Prius takes air out of Toyota offensive. As Toyota is busily engaged to tackle unintended acceleration problems with its certain brands, a number accidents related with uncontrollable acceleration with its Prius cars have stuck the car maker. In two recent events in the U.S., Toyota's prestigious hybrid cars are involved in cases of random acceleration.

In the first case, a Californian man, James Sikes' 2008 Prius car has sped up to more than 90 mph on the Interstate 8 near San Diego. Sikes could not able to stop his car until a patrolman advised him on loudspeakers to use both the brakes and parking brake simultaneously.

In another event, a 56-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when her 2005 Prius sped away losing control to her at Harrison, N.Y.

The events have added up a little more fuel to the burning woes of  Toyota, which has been undergoing severe Congressional review criticisms  following a string of recalls due to unintended acceleration. The Japanese car maker has recalled more than 6 million cars in the U.S. and overall more than 8 million cars across the globe.

Responding to the news, Toyota officials said that they have sent investigators to San Diego to check the cars and to interview the driver. The accidents were just reported soon after the completion of Toyota's presentation to counterattack an academic argument that Toyota cars are affected with electronic flaws.
