Tokyo: Toyota Prius 2010, Toyota recall January 2010 and Toyota recall gas pedal. At last, Toyota Motors Inc,. decided to recall half a million of its celebrated hybrid Prius cars due to the reported braking flaw. It is now the third major recall for the world's largest car maker since last September.
Toyota, which identified Prius cars as having a software glitch took a long time to declare this recall. Both the U.S. and Japan governments have warned Toyota to address the issues with Prius cars several times soon after the car maker's second largest recall of its eight brands of cars in the U.S. for unintended acceleration.
In Japan, thousands of complaints were lodged against the braking flow of Prius cars in last years. While in the U.S., National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has registered almost 124 complaints against the Prius cars so far.
According to Toyota sources, the company is going to recall a total of 436,000 units of its 2010 Prius, new Sai and Lexus HS250h hybrids internationally, with 223,000 in Japan and 150,000 in North America.
The new Prius cars were sold in 60 nation with sales of almost 350,000 units.
Toyota has largely been criticized by the U.S. Safety authorities and Obama administration for its slow phase in addressing the issues. Toyota official's responses after major recalls came out very late and were not satisfying the consumers.
In response to the criticisms of the U.S. safety agencies, Akio Toyoda, president of the Company said there would be more efforts to work close with the U.S. regulators.
Meanwhile, in a positive move for Toyota thanks to its executive's recent media appearances, the stocks of the company have registered a 3.8 percent increase to end up its continuing losses in January.
