Total December lunar eclipse 2010 to begin within hours

20 December, 2010

Total December lunar eclipse 2010 to begin within hours. But there are fears that Clouds may obscure view of Monday night's lunar eclipse

This night’s lunar eclipse is at the centre of attraction. It is not only astronomers who are only talking about it but ordinary people are also curious about the turn of event. It is understood that hundreds of thousands of sky watchers will wait for the time when lunar eclipse unfolds in the sky.

According to observers the total eclipse of the moon will coincide with winter solstice. Chances are that following this development it would appear high in the sky.

Also, this will make the moon visible throughout all of North and Central America. People living in Seattle could also relish their moment. However, a lot depends on the weather. The lunar eclipse will start around 10:33 p.m. PST. At this time no sun rays will fell on the moon. It will pass through the shadow.

The technological term for this is umbra. It is created by Earth and during this moment the sun’s light will be blocked by Earth. But it will not be dark all over. According to experts, some indirect sunlight will shower on the moon. This only means that the color of the moos will change to brown. Also it may turn up deep red because of the dust into the atmosphere that was cause by the recent volcanic eruptions. When lunar eclipse will reach its peek then more stars could be seen in the sky.

But with the weather forecast bleak chances are that people in the Seattle area won’t be able to watch the full lunar eclipse. Weathermen have predicted mostly cloudy skies with showers.

But this won’t stop people from taking a chance. Eclipse expert Fred Espenak of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center said: “It's perfectly placed so that all of North America can see it.” All said cloudy skies with showers may make things difficult for sky watchers.
