Tier 5 Unemployment Extension Update for the 99ers: Will they get their demands

27 August, 2010

Tier 5 Unemployment Extension Update for the 99ers: Will they get their demands. American jobless people were seen once again at Federal hall recently, demanding extension of unemployment benefits to 99ers. They are still struggling for their jobs. The government had earlier passed an unemployment extension. But the protestors say that it only covers those that are currently reaching the end of their benefits, despite those that have already collected the last of their benefits.

The group of unemployed Americans known as "99’ers" have exhausted their 99 weeks of unemployment benefits. They demanded that Congress pass a comprehensive jobs bill for all unemployed and expand unemployment benefits to include Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension for those who have reached the 99-week cutoff.

The rally was sponsored by the Unemployed Workers Action Group. Federick, the organizer of the rally said, “We are told ‘it has been long enough’, ‘no more unemployment benefits’, ‘tough’. Millions are being forced into poverty by their own government, with thousands added to our ranks every week. There are 2 to 4 million 99ers today and the 15 million plus unemployed tomorrow. 99ers are ballooning in numbers, further compounding the need for relief.”

The protesters also alleged that many of their older members are trying to commit suicide because of such a dangerous problem.

John Moore, a representative from the U.S. Department of Labor assured rally members to work for all their benefits. He also gave his personal business card to the members to give solve their problems personally via emails.
