Texas Republican primary results; Rick Perry won against Hutchison
3 March, 2010
Austin: Republicans liked both Kay Bailey Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry. But, they preferred Perry to contest November general election against Democrat Bill White. Republicans might have wanted Bailey to stay at Washington to battle with Obama administration and fight his healthcare reforms.
Whatever, when two-thirds precincts' results were out, Perry is heading over Hutchison in Republic primary. The Senator has already conceded defeat and bade best wishes for Perry to win over Bill White.
Analysts say Hutchison lost her bid for Perry in a runoff amid the whipsaw politics of the Tea Party movement.
Hutchison, who earlier announced that she would quit Senate in 2009 and would concentrate on Texas Gov. race, changed her mind on realizing that her presence in Washington is required for Republicans.
Even though, once she came up to the stage, she blamed several offers of Perry for their shortcomings; his land-consuming Trans-Texas Corridor, proposal to vaccinate pre-teen girls, growing dropout rates, rising property taxes, creeping voter fatigue and like that. Yet, nothing went on her way as Texas primary voters decided to pick up their existing governor.
"I believe Rick Perry is even stronger this time around than he was four years ago," Strayhorn said. "A lot of Republican primary voters do not want you to take on the incumbent, especially if he hasn't done anything to upset them."
