Trivandrum: UDF will take final decision over contentious positions of Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Parliamentary Affairs Minister before June 1, says the KPCC President, Ramesh Chennithala. UDF leadership has not been able to decide on crucial appointments of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Minister for Parliamentary Affair.
Muslim League’s announcement of an extra minister from the predetermined understanding caused the confusion. In response, Kerala Congress (M) came up with the demand for three ministers in the assembly.
It was then that a special UDF meeting was scheduled for the last week of May. “UDF will take a final decision on the issue of electing Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Parliamentary Affairs before June 1,” Manorama Online reports as Chennithala saying.
Earlier, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also stated that there would be solution for the deadlock by the end of the month. The first meeting of the new assembly is set to be held on June 1 and 2.
On the first day, swearing-in of the new members will take place. Later, election procedures for Speaker will start under the supervision of Pro-Term Speaker, N Shakthan. Speaker may be selected on June 2 and later the procedures for the election of Deputy Speaker will kick in.
