Scott Brown jobs bill support makes it Bipartisan
23 July, 2010
WASHINGTON, (KUNA): Scott Brown jobs bill support makes it Bipartisan, & jobs bill unemployment extension. A relatively modest jobs bill was cleared in the U.S. Senate on Monday evening for a final vote via unusual bipartisan support as five Republicans, including new Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, broke with their party members to support a measure backed by President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats.
The move to end debate on the measure passed 62-30, setting up the measure for a final vote on Wednesday.
Other members of the minority Republican Party in the Senate opposed the bill because Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada stripped out provisions they had sought and would not allow them to try to restore them.
"I am grateful to the Democratic and Republican senators who voted to support these investments in infrastructure and small businesses," Obama said after the vote. "This is one of many efforts we need to tackle our economic challenges, and we will continue to work with Congress on additional job creation measures. Jobs remain our top priority, and I look forward to working with members from both parties to get legislation signed, and the American people back to work."
