Prophet’s hair controversy, stop spiritual business: Jamaat

Kozhikode: Attaching an anonymous lock of hair with Prophet Muhammad is severe disservice to his holy teachings, says Sheik Muhammed Karakkunnu, Assistant Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Kerala chapter. He was speaking in a public conference organized by the Solidarity Youth Movement in Kozhikode against the bogus propagation on Prophet Muhammad’s hair by Kanthapuram Abubacker Musliyar.

Without giving enough evidence for the legitimacy of the hair, the Sunni group was trying to commercialize the religion and spirituality, Sheik Muhammed said. It is a complete disservice to Prophet Muhammad and his teachings, he added.

Solidarity Youth Movement organised the public conference in the wake of large controversy over Prophet Muhammad’s hair, which the leader of A.P Sunni, Kanthapuram Abubacker Musliyar, claimed he owned. There were strong criticisms against Abubacker Musliyar’s plan to build a special mosque to protect the alleged hair.

Several Muslims organisations like A.P Sunni’s rival faction, E.K Sunni, Kerala Nadvathul Mujahedeen and many social organisations associated with Muslims have condemned Abubacker Musliyar’s plan to build a massive mosque, collecting money showing Prophet Muhammad’s hair.

The proposed mosque is expected to cost 40 crore rupees. Kanthapuram intends to collect the money from his followers. Along with the mosque, Kanthapuram plans businesses complexes, real estate business, flats, apartments and a knowledge city in the same compound.
