Obama health care reform is pitting him against half of the nation: Will he succeed?
10 March, 2010
Washington DC: Obama health care reform is pitting him against half of the nation: Will he succeed? President Barack Obama’s healthcare plan seems to have pitted him against much of the nation. From trade union leaders to business bodies all seem to be opposing the bill tooth and nail.
Many had thought that with majority in Senate will prompt the Democrats to pass the controversial bill promptly.
But just more than a year in White House President Obama’s popularity has gone down considerably and he is finding himself in much weakened position than earlier.
The historic heath-care bill is facing stiff resistant from Republicans and some business groups. Reports have surfaced that some business groups have come together to form a coalition whose job is oppose the bill. They are willing to spent $1 million a day in convincing lawmakers into not voting in favor of the bill. The huge amount will be spending on advertisement.
The group has decided to continue the camp for ten days in which they will spend something between $4 million and $10 million. This has been confirmed by Bruce Josten, the top lobbyist at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Bruce is leading the camp from the front. Bruce also revealed that it will be run in more than 17 states on national cable television.
“We don’t believe Washington got the message, so we’re calling on viewers to tell Congress to stop this bill,” Bruce said. The advertisement is being called Afford. It will convey the message that the bill if passed will make a “tough economy worse.” In total there are some 248 groups involved in this campaign. It would be interesting to see how Barack Obama Administration handles this explosive situation. Since the triumph of the Republican Senator in the recent held Massachusetts elections President Obama and the Democrats have been under intense pressure to roll back the controversial health-care bill or make some amendments. But till now the government is unwilling to do so. Rather the Democrats are planning to push through.
