Next generation iPhone to have 8MP camera
18 February, 2011
Next generation iPhone to have 8MP camera. The rumour mill suggests that the next iPhone avatar iPhone 5 will be sporting 8 MP camera. According to Omnivision, the camera sensor to Apple, recently said 8 MP sensor biggest supplier to Apple said that the Apple may replace 5 MP sensor with 8MP sensor that with improved backslide illumination.
It is worth mentioning here when Apple had made the iPhone 4 it had increased the resolution to 5MP from 3.2 MP in iPhone 3GS also raised the sensor size from ¼ “ to 1/3” which had helped the company in improving the resolution of the device..
The new 8MP sensor that was announce by the Omni Vision is of 1/3.2” that will improve the sensitivity of each pixel.
It will provide better sensitivity, especially in dim lighting conditions. "These advances include a 20 percent improvement in peak quantum efficiency in all color channels, a 35 percent improvement in low-light sensitivity and a 45 percent increase in full-well capacity," the company said.
Moreover, the sensor also help Apple to increase video resolution of the device up to 1080 p.
But the 8 MP sensor that will supposed to be used in iPhone 5 is not a new thing at all. Several high end smartphones released in recent time have been sporting the camera of the same pixel! But in many cases the low light sensitivities doesn’t make the device great.
OmniVision claims a sensitivity of 864 mV/lux•sec for the new sensor, whereas the sensor in the iPhone 4 is rated at greater than 1300 mV/lux•sec.
Anyway the 8MP camerawill certainly give something the company can brag about.
