New Orleans Katrina after effects: New Orleans slowly recovers from the effects of the five-year-old Katrina tragedy

New Orleans: It is the fifth anniversary of Katrina coming ahead for the New Orleans. The catastrophic hurricane in 2005 completely wiped away the city killing thousands of people and demolishing houses of hundreds of thousands.

Hurricane Katrina is still a horrific memory for thousands of New Orleanians. Many of the runaway people have not still returned to their residences in New Orleans. It is mainly because that many people did not have enough sources to rebuild and repair their homes.

It was analyzed that the tragic hurricane caused that much miseries due to the negligence of the Army Corps of Engineers. Meanwhile the U.S. government offered compensations to the victims of the hurricane. In January this year, the U.S allowed nearly $500 million in reimbursement to the city’s major hospital. 

However according to the reports miseries of the five-year old tragedy still persist in New Orleans. It is then the News Orleanais come out to observe the fifth anniversary. President Obama is expected to visit the Hurricane damaged areas in the New Orleans in the coming week. The city announced a ceremony in occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Hurricane on Sunday.

The city is still striving with the aftereffects of Katrina. Nearly 50,000 of the city’s houses remain vacant, reports a said. It is about 27 percent of the total population in New Orleans. Actually 100,000 people, who retreated from the areas have not come back yet. It is known that they are thinking about returning to the native recently.
