New Apple iPod Touch 4th Generation Specs, Price & Release Date. Apple has launched its iPhone Touch during the annual event held at San Francisco. The users were very curious to see the glimpses of iPhone. It is revealed now that the iPhone Touch is not quite an iPhone without the phone.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said at the press conference on September 1 during the event that iPod Touch could get the job done. He said, "a lot of people call it an iPhone without the phone. It's also an iPhone without a contract."

The iPod Touch is deemed as a leading device to become contract-free smartphone solution. It is because of VoIP apps like Skype and Line 2, and the call management of Google Voice's web app. There are some critical missing pieces as well, which hold the iPod Touch back from data-only glory.

Apple has come up with some new features in the new iPod Touch. These features were not inclyded in old version of the device. It’s most significant additions are its front- and rear-facing cameras. With these cameras users can take pictures without lugging around a digital camera. Other new features of the device are its speakers and a microphone. Users can conduct Skype conversations with speaker phone. In the previous models an external headset for VoIP apps was required.

Kevin Tofel has pointed out some major drawbacks. He said that the iPod Touch's rear-facing camera is inferior to that of the iPhone, shooting in a mere 960-by-720 resolution. He also added that it is only able to translate to roughly 0.7 megapixels. That's worse than any iPhone, ever.
