Miss Universe 2010: Rima Fakih Miss USA 2010 wanted to win Miss Universe for USA

30 August, 2010

Miss Universe 2010: Rima Fakih Miss USA 2010 wanted to win Miss Universe for USA. Rima Fakih, the first Arab-American and Muslim Miss USA, said that she wanted to win the Miss Universe 2010 title for America and not just for herself.

Rima said that she received a lot of criticism when she was selected for the Miss USA for being the Arab-American. "You're not a good representative of the USA, you don't fit the description," critics had remarked.

But she said, "This is America. We're all one nation united, no matter what color, ethnicity, religion you are." "It kind of made me a little bit -- I'm not going to lie -- a little disappointed in the fact that people are misunderstanding what the United States of America really is," Fakih said.

"America is built on immigration and diversity. ... America still is the land of opportunity, and the land of freedom," she added. Fakih was selected as Miss USA on May 16 this year and had faced a lot of criticism since then on her Lebanese background.

However, this is not the only beauty pageant she has in her name. In fact, she was Miss Wayne County where she entered to win the scholarship money and in September she was crowned as Miss Michigan.

Rima Fakih, 24, is a graduate from Henry Ford Community College and the University of Michigan-Dearborn and plans to join the law school after the Miss Universe contest.

She was included in the top 20 contestants on the Miss Universe website on Sunday. If Fakih had won the Miss Universe title then she would have been the first Miss USA to win the title after 13 years.
