Minority scholarship schemes becoming headache for students

25 April, 2011

By Khabrein.Info Correspondent,

A large number of students who should have got their scholarships under minority students scholarship scheme a long time ago are still struggling to get it. The paltry sum that the central government gives mostly doesn’t reach the deserving students who struggle to get it.

Now in a new twist a report has appeared claiming that scholarship amount of more than three thousand students has been returned to the government as their account numbers didn’t match with the account numbers on the website of the government.

A student belonging to the minority community spends at least a fortnight filing tens of forms and then getting signatures from many officials besides school administration to be able to apply for it. Then it takes months before it is confirmed whether his name is in the list of students who will actually get the scholarship.

Recently in Khatauli block of Muzaffarnagar district, a large protest was organized by Minority School Welfare Organisation demanding that the process be made transparent and anomalies in it are cleared.

Mutullah an official of the Minority School Welfare Organisation told Khabrein.Info that students have nowhere to go if they have any complain. Most of the students who should have got scholarship amount months ago are still making rounds of the banks and schools, but they are not getting any satisfactory answers.
