Hurricane Earl 2010: Hurricane Earl projected path may cross N Carolina. It may turn killer on Monday.

Hurricane Earl strengthens to category 2 wind and likely turn as killer storm across Caribbean islands.  The cyclone that generating sustained winds of 160km/h may hit the islands on Monday. Forecasters warn to get ready for tackling the aftermaths.

The Earl has already reached the northern Leeward Islands followed by heavy rains and strong winds. According to forecasters there is a chance the hurricane could brush the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region toward the end of the week.

The official warning also covers the islands such as Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, Saint Martin, Saint Barthelemy, St Maarten, Saba, St Eustatius, the British Virgin Islands and the US Virgin Islands.

Many reports reveal that people in those areas are all set to face the storm. They are busy with stocking up on food, water and other essential supplies, as well as trying to protect property.

Meanwhile, weather agency disclosed that storm surging is expected to raise water levels by up to 4 feet above ground level in the hurricane warning area, the center said. The surge "will be accompanied by large and dangerous battering waves," the agency said.

Many people talked to media and expressed their anxiety if the storm hit the islands “We really don't want any loss of life, whether by persons who are careless or by security or emergency persons trying to rescue people," Carl Herbert, head of the St Kitts and Nevis local emergency management agency said.
