Google to add social feature to Gmail & New Facebook layout

9 February, 2010

New York: Google to add social feature to Gmail & New Facebook layout. Google plans to make up its Gmail adding a few social net working capabilities. According to a report published in The Wall Street Journal, it is known that Google is to bring in elaborate changes on its Webmail and Gtalk in an attempt to compete with Facebook and Twitter.

It is assumed that raising popularity of Facebook and Twitter might have induced Google to adapt its Gmail and Messaging services offering a social networking touch. In a recent move, Yahoo and AOL have announced their plan to integrate online communication services with social networking features.

Facebook, which recently redesigned its homepage has got almost 400 million users worldwide and counting. So like, Twitter, a social networking tool for short messages has also got immense popularity across the globe.

At the same time, Google's current  social networking site, Orkut has completely failed to draw attention of net users except in Brazil. Google's acquisition of Twitter rival Jaiku also did not work well.

Facebook appears to be the major competitor of Google's services. The popular social net working site has a comprehensive chatting application so like Google's Gtalk.  A report from TechCrunch indicates that Facebook is planning to strengthen up this chatting service directly to compete with Google's and other sites' instant messaging services.

Facebook is now also providing news feeds, being a strong slap on Google's news aggregation services.

Whatever, with 150 million unique users for Gmail a month, it is sure Google can easily make it a platform to incorporate social net working features.
