Google offers comes amid Google shuffle, Larry Page now CEO. Search engine giant Google has made changes at the top position. Reports have surfaced that Eric Schmidt has said adieu to the company as its CEO. His place has been taken by co-founder Larry Page.
Eric stayed at the top for nearly 10 years as CEO of executive. For many Google fans his name is new. But those who have been regular at Google know him well. The Google’s page rank algorithm is named after him. It is an important system that determines where web pages should rank in search results. According to company insiders the shift was long time in coming.
Fans came to know about it after Eric tweeted: “Day-to-day adult supervision no longer needed!” It was after this that Google make the announcement. The fact of the matter is that the California-based company needs much more adult supervision.
The company has entered into its second decade as an organization. It is getting stiff competition from other companies including Facebook. However, till now it has maintained a vice like grip over the search engine industry. It continues to be at the number one position.
With many new companies taking a plunge chances are that Google must face tough competition from its rival in coming years. That is why it is girding up for such situation. But it would be interesting to see how far Page would succeed in taking the company forward.
In a blog post, Eric said the move was planned “over the [Christmas] holidays”. This only means that things were well planned in advance. Many experts feel that had Google announced the shift on January 2 all hell would have broken as the stock would have tanked.
Google is well positioned with $8.44bn in revenue. This is up 26% on a year ago. Besides, the company’s net income has touched $2.54bn, up 28.7%.
