New York: Forbes billionaire list: Carlos Slim Helu is the richest man in the world. The last century was America’s century. You could have never heard the name of Slim, Mukesh, or even Li Shufu. But if you read the Forbes list of richest people in the world, you may start scratching your head as to what you were reading.

In the last century most names would look like familiar to an average American. Whether they were the bosses of powerful American companies, investors, Arab sheikhs who ruled their countries as owners of the kingdoms or some European and Japanese companies.

But not anymore.

You start reading the Forbes list of 10 wealthiest people in the world, and in top ten you will see that most of them are the names you never heard of.

The list begins with Slim, who owns the biggest telecom company in the Latin American region and who owns stakes in several US companies including the New York Times. He is followed by Bill Gates and Warren Buffets.

You take a sigh of relief. But again you come across a name you cannot really pronounce. Mukesh Ambani. Ever heard of him? Nope!

The list has another name that you might have never heard of him. Lakshmi Mittal is the owner of Arcelor, the largest steel manufacturing company in the world.
