Films on Internet: Kerala Film Producers Association registers a compliant

7 May, 2011

By Khabrein.Info Correspondent,

Kochi: The Kerala Film Producers Association has registered a complaint at the Eranakulam Central police station for the availability of new films on Internet. Many of new Malayalam films are usually available for free download in several websites and YouTube soon after their releases.

Voice against the appearance of new films on Internet gained momentum with the leak of new releases like ‘Christian Brothers’ and ‘Urumi’ within days after official release.

Urumi’s protagonist Prithviraj came up strongly against the lobby that avails new films on the Web. In its complaint against the trend, Film Producers Association said that it could understand that the uploading of new films often takes place in foreign countries like U.S and Bangalore.

Malayalis working in such places often upload and watch the films on Internet, the association secretary G Suresh said.

The trend will indeed cause massive losses to the already-in-crisis Malayalam film industry. Many producers and directors in Malayalam film world severely criticised the growing tendency of people to watch the plagiarised copies of films. Once, there was only an issue of plagiarism with the duplicate copies of films in CDs and DVDs.

Now, in the world of Internet, new films often leak onto the Web with greater picture and voice clarity within days after official launches. That means people with the Internet connection will prefer to watch the films at their homes, rather than moving out to cinemas.
