Call Congress now: Healthcare debate begins today in House Rules Committee

20 March, 2010

Washington DC: Call Congress now: Healthcare debate begins today in House Rules Committee. The big moments for the Democrats have come. Saturday is an important day in America’s history as the House Rules Committee meets to mull the historic healthcare bill.

This meet is important for the Democrats as they will make their best to see that it doesn’t face opposition. The Democrats have already started backroom maneuvering to convince fence sitters. Insiders say that it would be a difficult task for the Democrats to convince some of their own members who don’t want to get the bill passed in the same form.

Besides, the Republicans are up in arms. They will do everything possible to torpedo the bill. In the beginning of this month only some conservative tycoons got together to unleash a movement to convince people and Senators about the negative aspects of the bill.

But the bill is the real test for President Barack Obama and his party. The President is doing everything possible to convince his members to be ready for the big moment.

Before the curtain dawns the President is expected to meet House Democrats and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Democrats have the required strength in the House to win this battle. They are close to the 216 votes. But they have to make sure that disgruntled Democrats don’t cross their camp.
