Brazil bars sales of Toyota Corolla
23 April, 2010
Sao Paulo,(IANS/EFE) Brazil has barred sales of the Toyota Corolla car after nine locally-produced units of the popular model were found to have problems.
Information about a certain defect was not provided to consumers at the moment of purchase, nor was it visible inside the vehicle, the Attorney General's Office in Minas Gerais state said Thursday.
The sales ban will be lifted once the Japanese automobile giant's Brazilian subsidiary corrects the fault in both new and existing vehicles, Amauri Artimos da Matta, the head of the AG office's consumer affairs division, said in a statement.
Toyota do Brasil Ltda has not commented on the ban.
The automobile giant has recalled more than eight million vehicles worldwide over the past few months, most of them for problems with the accelerator pedal.
