It looks that Arizona immigration law cannot be stopped now. Arizona's immigration law is at the centre of attraction one again. When it was passed many activists and Democrats had opposed it. They had slammed it for being against the spirit of the United States. It became such a controversial issue that the US administration led by Barack Obama had to intervene.
The administration sought injunction to prevent SB 1070 from taking effect Thursday. Legal experts are of the opinion that hopefully it may succeed in its long-term goal of overturning the law before it starts to take into effect. It is understood that the Arizona government may implement it from this Thursday.
If law is put into practice then illegal immigrants, including Latinos will be at the receiving end. It gives extra power to police officers to stop and search suspected immigrant. Experts say that the law will only increase racial profiling of the impoverished Latinos. .
However, chances are that the law may be overturned because the Justice Department's case against the law is sound. The Obama administration had adopted a different methods to fight illegal immigrants. Rather than victimizing the immigrants, the federal government wants to target employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants and illegal immigrants who commit crime.
