Apple iOS 4.3 review: It is unexciting
4 May, 2011
Apple has released its latest version of iOS mobile operating system and besides pleasing the customers with a few new features, not much has been done to appease the corporate users.
The tethering and single-tap conference calling features are the one that are universally winsome.
However, the Personal Hotspot tethering feature only works with the iPhone 4. To add to its troubles, it requires a data plan that allows its use.
Another good news is that the new JavaScript Engine has improved the performance of the MobileSafari browser. This means that a happy output of 720p HD video from the iPad, iPhone 4 and the latest-generation iPod touch is very much possible. Of course, to make this happy possibility Apple’s latest dongle, the Apple Digital AV adapter is a must. The adapter allows video mirroring and a 1080p output for all content except movies, which don’t go beyond 720p.
Apple hasn’t made this update available to iPhone 3G and the second-generation iPod touch users because of problems with making iOS 4 work on those devices. However, the lack of releasing the new security features for these deprived gadgetrs is keenly felt.
The new security fixes affect image processing, the FreeType component of iOS Core Graphics, and networking, the WebKit underpinnings of MobileSafari and the browser itself.
