The whole Chilean nation is under terror and anxiety following the massive 8.8 earthquake in the country. So far the country has confirmed 55 deaths, but a full estimate is still to come.
The fear has gripped the nation all the more as the country faces constant aftershocks.
The situation is so desperate and people are so much fearful that the president has said that despite the natural calamity the national institutions continue to perform their duties.
He wanted to send a signal that the national infrastructure hasn’t crumbled as was the case with Haiti, the island nation that hasn’t come out of the destruction caused by a powerful earthquake.
The President has also indicated that the number of the deaths that have been announced are not final and the government expects the number of dead to rise substantially as people in the region account their near and dear ones.
The centre of the 8.8 earthquake was near Concepcion.
Reports coming from the region are still hazy as it lies far away from the national capital Santiago.
Tsunami warning has been issued and people have been asked to take precautionary measured.
Meanwhile Tsunami warning has been issued for Hawaii as well.
