November 7: Verizon Motorola Droid, Motorola Droid user manual and Motorola Droid apps. Don’t get excited after reading this. Internet search engine giant Google is promoting the new Motorola Droid, launched today from Verizon Wireless. The much-talked about device is also available at Best Buy.
A visit on Google’s home page shows the blue button in the upper right-hand corner. A click on it will take the users to the Verizon Wireless Droid splash Web page. And the link under it takes you to another Droid page that's hard on the eyes.
The first geek to point it out was Matt McGee. Now the question: Is it an advertisement for Motorola and the Droid phone?
Yes, it is. Google has high hopes for the Droid because it is the first phone to feature its Android 2.0 operating system build and feature the Google Maps Navigation GPS service.
The buzz is that this advertisement will help Droid up it sales. Store manager Jake Russell is optimistic and says that customers have showed their interest in the new device. But, he adds the initial interest generated over the past couple of years for smart phones such as the BlackBerry Storm was far better than what we are seeing today.
"Our marketing campaign has generated a lot of buzz on the Internet for the Droid, but it's only really started going the last two weeks," he said.
